Build Your List with a Challenge [and Take Your Tribe on a Journey]

Turn your journey and product into a challenge for your perfect client. Why does this work for you and your business?  Well, when you bring someone along on your journey and challenge them to be their better self they get to:

  1. Know who you are…quickly.
  2. Believe in what you believe.  They are inspired by your why.
  3. Feel that they are not alone…because you’ve either been there or you are going through it with them at the very moment.
  4. Be motivated to complete the challenge and feel good about the road to success.
  5. Share their thoughts and experiences with someone who cares.
  6. Get support from a group setting (face-to-face or virtual).

Taking people on a journey and creating challenges is a ‘networking system’ you can use to connect and develop long-lasting relationships with your perfect clients. The best way, by far, to grow a list quick is to present your audience with a challenge…a FREE or PAID challenge.  But if you are trying to make your mark…then I would suggest starting with the FREE.

It’s All Over the Internet

People are signing up for challenges on every level and in every industry. Why this sudden explosion?  People are bored.  They want more out of life.  They are looking for change, but not quite sure how to go about getting it.  And, I can’t think of a better person to give them what they need than YOU.

Remember the Pepsi Challenge…the blind taste test commercial where people were blind folded and had to pick between Coke and Pepsi with one sip.  Really? One sip? Well, Pepsi’s sales sky-rocketed!  But if you are loyal [like me], you will stick with your brand regardless of how sweet the other one is.  Just sayin’…

Oh…let’s not forget the famous challenge tagline from Nike, “Just Do It.”  Yes…it’s a challenge.  Nike is challenging you to stop procrastinating, stop making excuses, stop thinking about it and just do what you need to do to be your better self.

Look, NO ONE can resist a challenge.  It’s human nature.  You don’t have too push hard…just tell your audience when and where…and they will be there.  Just ask Edna Mode from the Disney movie, “The Incredibles.”  Find out how she could not resist a challenge when presented. Click here.

So, what type of challenges can you create?

  • Product that is in developmental stages.
  • Prelude to a paid product.
  • Ongoing list building strategy.
  • A small piece of an existing product.

Challenges can be any duration…but if this is part of a list building strategy, then I say…how long do you want to keep your audience around?  And, are you prepared to continue to give them lots of goodies to keep them interested in your brand?

Free Challenges & Durations

5 – 7 Day Challenges are usually teasers to a paid product…good for the perfect clients.

8 – 21 Day Challenges help to form habits transforms the not-so-perfect clients into perfect clients.

22 – 30 Day Challenges keeps ‘the others’ around longer for the ride so you can prove why you are the best in your industry.

Free challenges can run periodically throughout your business to build your list while you make your mark.  It can be listed as a class, workshop or training if you choose.  Just make sure you include the word ‘challenge’ in the marketing material.

  1. Great idea, and it occurs to me that the annual November days of gratitude on Facebook are a type of challenge.

    What will mine be…..hmmm…. I’ll have to give that some thought since I really have 3 client groups (moms who use clickaclass.com, health/fitness pros who offer active classes, and advertisers who want to reach either).

    But you’ve given me some great inspiration and a terrific project for the new year and my new site upgrade!

  3. Ooh I like this idea – I’ve not really thought about it before but that is intriguing! People are bored – I’m with you there. Everything is handed to them on a plate by the TV and media, and it’s dull, it’s blah. But challenges are interactive and you might learn something about yourself, it awakes our primal urges!

  4. What a great idea. I’ve thought about it but it’s not something I’ve implemented (yet). I have a food/cooking blog so I’m sure I can “cook” up a challenge.
